I was touched by the film and the story it told. Rugby has never been my thing but I grew up around the sport and in a way defined myself in opposition to it. I was at high school in New Zealand and protesting against the Springbok tour's racially selected team in the era of apartheid.
What I could relate to was these men wanting to find a sense of belonging and acceptance and, as one of the players states, being part of something bigger than oneself. However, I wonder if the macho group culture depicted in the film up-holds some of the masculine culture that has oppressed and excluded these very same men?
